When we first got Boudreau and took him with us up to the cottage he was none too sure about the lake. We had him in a life jacket because bulldogs are too top heavy to swim. We eventually convinced him the lake wasn’t too bad. By the next summer he would run down to the water and splash in the shallows and with a little convincing he would swim out a little way to where he couldn’t touch. Now he’s a regular water dog! Playing fetch in the water all day long!
The water and weather were perfect this past weekend. Hot enough that I was in the water most of the weekend. Read a lot, played board games all of the good cottage things.
Perfect blue skies and sunshine. There is nothing quite like laying out on the dock after a swim, still cold from the water with the sun beating down and starting to warm you up. The sound of water lapping against the shore, boats buzzing around and cicadas humming.
I like to sit on the deck after my first swim of the day watch the sun filter through the trees, smell the pine scented air, drink a hot cup of tea. It’s a good way to live life. It’s raining and cold now, fall is in the air. I’m not quite ready to let summer go but the weather now seems to disagree with me.
“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
– Henry David Thoreau
